It’s been 30 years since author Hazel Edwards introduced us all to a very special cake-eating hippo, and SuperClubbers were thrilled to chat to her on March 10. Many young writers took the opportunity to ask Hazel for tips on their own writing projects and they were all keen to learn about Hazel’s expedition to Antartica in 2001.

SuperClubbers also shared what the hippo books mean to them (‘when i was little these were my favourite books to read at night’) and everyone wanted to know what the hippo’s name is (the hippo doesn’t have a name although Hazel gets lots of interesting suggestions).

Generous with her ideas, writing tips and passion for learning, Hazel’s Hot Seat interview was a real highlight for our enthusiastic SuperClubbers!
